It is loaded with factory ordered options such as: T-Top roof, deluxe hobnail interior, factory AC, Power Windows, Pulse wipers, Rear defrost, and much more. This Firebird is very solid, has nice body panel fit, and great lines. It looks good, runs awesome, and is fun to drive. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come. This Firebird is finished in the beautiful and desirable color combination of Starlight Black over Black deluxe cloth interior. This is the correct and original color scheme as verified by the trim tag pictured below. The low original mileage is verified not only by the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title, pictured below, that indicates the mileage as "Actual." Please peruse all of the photos, video, and information below to get a true sense of how clean and original this Firebird really is.

As a side note, this Formula is not a dealer auction vehicle. We hand pick each car after careful inspection. We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected. Please take the time to scrutinize each picture. model description

A new styling treatment to the front end was the most striking change for the 1979 Firebird, laying back the nose at a 22-degree angle from the "Batmobile's" 16-degree angle for better aerodynamics. The Trans Am became a "bottom breather", picking up some fresh air for cooling at the bumper grilles, the remaining amount from underneath the front bumper. The traditional grille between the headlamps was gone, replaced by a pair mounted in the bumper pad extensions. The grilles were in a matte black and contained the turn signal/park lamp lenses in the upper outer corners. The now common four rectangular headlamps were each set in deep recesses, surrounded by low gloss bezels. The Pontiac crest continued to reside in the center of the front fascia.

In addition to the styling change, a bright spot to the front end restyle was a deeper front spoiler, now made of a flexible material rather than the hard plastic of the '77-78's. The change in material made it a bit more friendly to curb stones and parking lot dips. The spoiler actually was responsible for a major portion of the cooling air which was channeled to the radiator. Larger wheel air deflectors (or spats) were fitted, blending with the new spoiler.

The most drastic and best looking change to the rear had to be the tail lamp assemblies. The lamps now stretched corner to corner, with a hinged fuel filler door in the center. While this may seem enough of a change, the big news was that the tail lamps had a "blacked out" look; at least until the lights were activated, then the red was proudly broadcast. For 1979, this was major cool!

condition

Exterior

The Starlight Black exterior is in nice condition. As one can see in the photos, the paint has a good gloss, decent shine, and smooth finish. This Firebird appears to have had one repaint years ago and still looks good overall but paint does show its age in certain areas, please see specific photos below. Both doors open and shut nicely. Often Firebirds will have particularly chipped up front ends; this car does not and both bumpers are in nice condition with no fading, but there is some spider webbing on the front bumper, rear bumper is in great shape. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. We have include specific photos below of the lower quarters, rockers, spring perches, and areas most prone to rust to give any perspective buyer the most accurate representation of the car and show how good it is. There are some small blemishes around the car that are be to faint to show up in photos, but nothing that is really noticeable from about five feet away. The original rally II wheels are in nice unrestored condition and the trim rings still shine nicely. The trunk is very clean and solid and nicely detailed with its original correct trunk mat, spare tire, jack, and the cars original speakers, which the drivers side speaker still retains its original insulation box. As one can see in the many photos of the underside of the car it is very solid.

The Formula looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Window Date Codes

Driver: IA - The "I" denotes June and the "A" denotes 1979 meaning the driver's side window was made in June of 1979.

Passenger: IA - "I" denotes June and "A" denotes 1979 meaning the passenger's side window was made in June of 1979.

Rear: IA - "I" denotes June and "A" denotes 1979 meaning the rear window was made in June of 1979.

Driver's T-Top - CG - "C" denotes November and "G" denotes 1977 meaning the T-Top was made in November of 1977.

Passenger T-Top - CG - "C" denotes November and "G" denotes 1977 meaning the T-Top was made in November of 1977.

Please note that almost all of the glass on this car is date coded and original as most pieces predate the car's body build date of this fourth week of June, 1979 (06D). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

Interior

The Black deluxe cloth original interior of this Firebird looks splendid. The original seats are in amazing condition with no split seams, or signs of excessive wear at all. Please note that these are the original seats, not some cheap aftermarket covers or replacements. The carpet also appears to be original and also looks good with no major stains, rips, or holes. The original dash pad is in remarkable condition with no cracks, fading, warping, or sun damage. The original door panels look great with no cracks or splits, and both door pulls are solid and in tact. The headliner is in decent shape with no holes or stains. The package tray looks good for being original. All interior plastics and in good factory condition, are not chalky or brittle, and have good color and finish. All interior lights and gauges work as they should with the obvious exception of the clock. The am/fm cassette stereo works well and most importantly the dash has not been cut or altered in any way. This car has not been smoked in; there are no burn marks and no aroma of cigarettes what so ever. Firebird interiors are not known to wear well and the excellent condition of this original interior is a testament to the care and attention this car has received throughout its life.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Firebird appears to be in very good mechanical condition. We have put about 40 miles on the car during our ownership and in that time the car has run great with no issues and has been completely reliable. In the video below one can see the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, accelerating away, and going through some curves. Please note that it shifts properly, there are no strange vibrations, and the car performs quite well overall. The car is an exceptional driver that feels great on the road and at highway speeds. There is no smoke when starting or driving the car. It starts right away every time, idles well, and runs great. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. This drive line looks virtually unmolested and factory correct including the exhaust on the car which still retains a catalytic converter and the transverse style muffler with single exit pipe. Also, the engine is very clean and nicely detailed as one can see from the photos. This is a factory A/C car and the factory A/C equipment is still in place, but one of the lines has been disconnected. The horn works as do all the interior and exterior lights, wipers, and blower for the heater. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1979 Firebird is in nice original condition and is a true bargain at our asking price. It is a great value and will only appreciate over time. The market is very hot on these late F-Body cars right now, especially for original low actual mile examples like this one. This Firebird turns heads and gets tons of attention wherever it goes. The value of these cars has gone up exponentially in recent years. They are all solid investments for a collector or the average enthusiast. Cars like this are the Barrett Jackson and Mecum stars of the future. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
