Seven Hills Motorcars is proud to offer this 1979 Factory Black on Black Trans Am which is in very nice driver condition and priced to sell. This numbers matching Trans Am is very stock and correct. It features the sought after Fisher T-tops and the original factory build sheet. It's a striking color combination and really brings you back to a time when the Trans Am was the performance car of an era. The factory correct red graphics really stand out on this Trans Am and the rally II wheels also compliment the car. It looks great, runs awesome, and is fun to drive. This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic Trans Am that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come. This Trans Am is finished in the beautiful and desirable color combinations of Starlight Black over Black standard vinyl interior. This is arguably the most desired and appealing color combination available on these second generation Trans Am's. Most importantly, this is the correct and original color scheme as verified by the trim tag and build sheet, both pictured below. Please peruse all of the photos below to get a true sense of how clean and original this Trans Am really is.

Please note that this Trans Am is "numbers matching" meaning the engine is original to the car. The last six digits of the VIN, 178371, are stamped on the engine block and pictured below indicating that this is the original engine that was installed in the car brand new at the factory.

As a side note, this Trans Am is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our classics come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Pontiac, just give us a call.

model description

A new styling treatment to the front end was the most striking change for the 1979 Trans Am, laying back the nose at a 22-degree angle from the "Batmobile's" 16-degree angle for better aerodynamics. The Trans Am became a "bottom breather", picking up some fresh air for cooling at the bumper grilles, the remaining amount from underneath the front bumper. The traditional grille between the headlamps was gone, replaced by a pair mounted in the bumper pad extensions. The grilles were in a matte black and contained the turn signal/park lamp lenses in the upper outer corners. The now common four rectangular headlamps were each set in deep recesses, surrounded by low gloss bezels. The Pontiac crest continued to reside in the center of the front fascia.

In addition to the styling change, a bright spot to the front end restyle was a deeper front spoiler, now made of a flexible material rather than the hard plastic of the '77-78's. The change in material made it a bit more friendly to curb stones and parking lot dips. The spoiler actually was responsible for a major portion of the cooling air which was channeled to the radiator. Larger wheel air deflectors (or spats) were fitted, blending with the new spoiler.

The most drastic and best looking change to the rear had to be the tail lamp assemblies. The lamps now stretched corner to corner, with a hinged fuel filler door in the center. While this may seem enough of a change, the big news was that the tail lamps had a "blacked out" look; at least until the lights were activated, then the red was proudly broadcast. For 1979, this was major cool!

condition

Exterior

The Starlight Black exterior is in nice condition. As one can see in the photos, the paint has a excellent gloss, deep shine, and smooth finish. In fact, this car was a bit difficult to photograph because the paint is so reflective. The red decals are in terrific shape with no fading or cracking. Red is the factor correct color for the decal package, RPO code WV9, as per the factory build sheet pictured below. The red and black combination looks magnificent and is much more rare than the gold decals you usually see with black Trans Am. Often Trans Am's will have particularly chipped up front ends; this car does not and the low front spoiler is in great condition as one can see in the photos. Both bumpers are in nice condition with no fading or spider webbing paint. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. We have include specific photos below of the lower quarters, rockers, spring perches, and areas most prone to rust to give any perspective buyer the most accurate representation of the car. On the top of left front fender there is a small ding; we have included an specific photo of the area below to show how unnoticeable it is. There are some bumps, touch ups, signs of old body work, and other small blemishes around the car that were too faint to show up in photos, but nothing that is really noticeable from about five or ten feet away. The original rally II wheels are in nice unrestored condition and the trim rings still shine nicely. The tires are not cracked or dry rotten and have about 90% tread left. The trunk is very clean and solid and nicely detailed with a new correct trunk mat.

The Trans Am looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Interior

The Black standard interior of the Trans Am looks splendid. The seats are in excellent condition and look as great in person as they do in the photos. The carpet looks good with no major stains, rips, or holes. The original dash pad is in amazing condition with no cracks, fading, warping, or sun damage. The upgraded CD stereo with four speakers sounds awesome in this Trans Am and was nicely installed, including the door speakers up front. The original door panels look good with no cracks or splits, and both door pulls are solid and in tact. The headliner is in great shape with no holes or stains and is not sagging at all. The package tray looks good with no warping, excessive fading, or sun damage. All interior plastics and in good factory condition and not chalky or brittle and have good color and finish. All interior lights and gauges work as they should outside of the clock. This car has not been smoked in; there is no aroma of cigarettes what so ever. Firebird interiors are not known to wear well and the excellent condition of this mostly original interior is a testament to the care this car has received throughout its life.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Trans Am appears to be in very good mechanical condition and all of the accessories work. This is a factory AC car and currently the AC system works and blows cold air, one can observe the a/c compressor clicking on and activating properly in the video below. Very importantly the original engine resides to this day under the hood, please look at the close up picture below of the correct VIN stamp on the engine block. In the video below one can see the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, braking to stoplight, accelerating away, and going through some curves. Please note that it shifts properly, there are no strange vibrations, and the car performs quite well overall. The previous owner drove this Trans Am almost 1000 miles in just two weeks last month with no issues, which is a great sign of a nice well sorted driver. The car is an exceptional driver that feels great on the road and at highway speeds. There is no smoke when starting or driving the car. It starts right away every time, idles well, and runs great. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. Also, the engine is clean and nicely detailed as one can see from the photos. The horn works as do all the interior and exterior lights, wipers, blower for the heater and a/c on all speeds, and even the trunk lamp works. The speedometer, tachometer, odometer, oil pressure, fuel, and battery gauges all work as they should. This Trans Am has lots of power and handles great. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially on a beautiful day with the T-tops out.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1979 Trans Am is in very good condition and is a true bargain at our asking price. It is a great value and will only appreciate over time. The market is very hot on these cars right now, especially for black examples like this one. This Trans Am is the one to have due to the infamous and iconic color combination, the fact that it is numbers matching, and its well preserved stock appearance really adds to its value. While we are selling the car with the mileage as "Non Actual" and we are unable to verify the original mileage, it's more than possible to believe the mileage could be correct due to the great overall mostly original condition of the car. This Trans Am turns heads and gets tons of attention wherever it goes. The value of these cars has gone up exponentially in recent years. They are all solid investments for a collector or the average enthusiast. Cars like this are the Barrett Jackson and Mecum stars of the future. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
