vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is proud to offer this gorgeous 1979 WS6 Trans Am which is in excellent driver condition and priced to sell. This numbers matching Trans Am is very stock and correct in appearance and features the very sought after WS6 performance and handling package with 4 wheel disc brakes. It's a striking color combination and really brings you back to a time when the Trans Am was the performance car of an era. This Trans Am was Ziebarted when new and is very solid with great lines. It looks great, runs awesome, and is fun to drive. This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic Trans Am that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come. This Trans Am is finished in the beautiful and desirable color combinations of Starlight Black over Camel Tan standard vinyl interior. This is arguably the most desired and appealing color combination available on these second generation Trans Am's. Please peruse all of the photos below to get a true sense of how clean and original this Trans Am really is.

As a side note, this Trans Am is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our classics come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Pontiac, just give us a call.

model description

A new styling treatment to the front end was the most striking change for the 1979 Trans Am, laying back the nose at a 22-degree angle from the "Batmobile's" 16-degree angle for better aerodynamics. The Trans Am became a "bottom breather", picking up some fresh air for cooling at the bumper grilles, the remaining amount from underneath the front bumper. The traditional grille between the headlamps was gone, replaced by a pair mounted in the bumper pad extensions. The grilles were in a matte black and contained the turn signal/park lamp lenses in the upper outer corners. The now common four rectangular headlamps were each set in deep recesses, surrounded by low gloss bezels. The Pontiac crest continued to reside in the center of the front fascia.

In addition to the styling change, a bright spot to the front end restyle was a deeper front spoiler, now made of a flexible material rather than the hard plastic of the '77-78's. The change in material made it a bit more friendly to curb stones and parking lot dips. The spoiler actually was responsible for a major portion of the cooling air which was channeled to the radiator. Larger wheel air deflectors (or spats) were fitted, blending with the new spoiler.

The most drastic and best looking change to the rear had to be the tail lamp assemblies. The lamps now stretched corner to corner, with a hinged fuel filler door in the center. While this may seem enough of a change, the big news was that the tail lamps had a "blacked out" look; at least until the lights were activated, then the red was proudly broadcast. For 1979, this was major cool!

condition

Exterior

The Starlight Black exterior is in terrific restored condition. This Trans Am was treated to a recent repaint with all new correct factory decals. This repaint was professionally done and and the decals looks nearly perfect. As one can see in the photos, the paint has a excellent gloss, deep shine, and smooth finish. Often many Trans Am's will have particularly chipped up front ends; this car does not and the low front spoiler is in great condition as one can see in the photos. Both bumpers are in very nice condition with no fading or flaking paint. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. There may be some small blemishes that were too faint to show up in photos, but nothing that is really noticeable from about five feet away. The 8 inch original snowflake wheels are in excellent condition with a brilliant finish, new lug nuts, and 4 new center caps. The period correct Goodyear Eagle ST tires are in excellent condition and drive very well on the car. They have great tread left and are not dry-rotted and I would not hesitate to drive them anywhere. All of the weather stripping is in newly replaced condition including the: shaker seal, trunk seal, door seals, window seals and window sweeps. Trunk is complete and very solid and comes with a space saver spare tire, new trunk mat, and jack accessories.

This Trans Am has a stamping on the radiator core support. It is hard to read, but the core support appears to show a "2 20 79" stamp, or February 20 1979. This stamping would be correct and original as it precedes the car's build date of the second week of March, 1979 (03B). As one can imagine, if this Trans Am had ever sustained even a minor front end collision this part would have been repaired or replaced. An original stamping is great to see in tact.

The Trans Am looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Interior

The Camel Tan standard interior of the Trans Am looks splendid. The original seat covers are in amazing condition and look as excellent in person as they do in the photos with no excessive wear, rips, or stains. The carpet looks like new with no major stains, rips, or holes. The dash pad is in excellent condition with no cracks, fading, warping, or sun damage. The original GM am/fm radio remains in the car today and most importantly the dash remains intact, uncut, and unmodified. All interior lights and gauges work as they should outside of the clock. The original door panels look great with no cracks or splits, and both door pulls are solid and in tact. There is one small blemish on the right door panel with a specific photo below, actually the window crack covers this spot some of the time. The headliner is in great shape with no holes or stains and is not sagging at all. The package tray was recently replaced and looks brand new. The door sills have also been newly replaced and look new. Also included with this fine TA are a new set of Trans Am logo mats which really set off the interior. This car has not been smoked in; there is no aroma of cigarettes what so ever. Firebird interiors are not known to wear well and the excellent condition of this interior is a testament to the care this car has received throughout its life.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Trans Am appears to be in excellent mechanical condition and all of the accessories work. This is a factory non AC car, which really unclutters the engine bay and slightly improves performance. Very importantly the original engine resides to this day under the hood, please look at the close up picture below of the correct vin stamp on the engine block. The mechanics and the way this car runs and drives are some of its strongest points. The factory ordered WS6 performance and handling package really adds to the appeal of this Trans Am. 4 wheel disk brakes was just the beginning of this special package; also included was larger sway bars, heavy duty springs, and 15x8 snowflake wheels. This Trans Am is an exceptional driver that feels great on the road and at highway speeds. There is no smoke when starting or driving the car. It starts right away every time, idles well, and runs great. The brakes are responsive and do not pull; even the the emergency brake works as it should. Also, the engine is clean and nicely detailed as one can see from the photos. The chrome valve covers shine up nicely and add some pop under the hood. The horn works as do all the interior and exterior lights, gauges, wipers, and blower for the heater work as they should. The speedometer, tachometer, odometer, oil pressure, fuel, and battery gauges all work as they should. The turn signals work, but the stalk is a little finicky.  A brand new genuine AC Delco turn signal switch is included with the car. This Trans Am has lots of power and handles great. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially on a beautiful day.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1979 Trans Am is in excellent condition and is a true bargain at our asking price. It is a great value and will only appreciate over time. The market is very hot on these cars right now, especially for premium examples like this one. This Trans Am is the one to have due to the infamous and iconic color combination, the fact that it is numbers matching, and its well preserved stock appearance really adds to its value. While the clear title pictured below shows the mileage as "Actual," we have no other documentation or proof to verify the mileage is original other than the excellent condition of the car. This Trans Am turns heads and gets tons of attention wherever it goes. The value of these cars has gone up exponentially in recent years. They are all solid investments for a collector or the average enthusiast. Cars like this are the Barrett Jackson and Mecum stars of the future. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
