vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this rare PHS Documented 1980 Trans Am Special Edition in excellent restored condition that is priced to sell.  This Trans Am is one of only 3,444 Factory Special Edition cars with factory T-Tops built in 1980.  This Trans Am was built for performance and also comes from the factory with the 301 4bbl Turbo engine and the WS6 special performance handing package.  This special car also comes with an installed Hurst dual gate shifter which is a blast to drive.  A Hooker show bar was professionally installed to add to the vintage performance look.   This Trans Am has no visible rust and is very solid with great lines.  It looks great and is fun to drive, especially with the T tops off.  This is an excellent opportunity to own a highly desirable classic Trans Am that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value.  One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come.  This Trans Am is finished in a beautiful burgundy red with metal flake with all new gold decals over Camel deluxe interior.  The factory color scheme as verified on the trim tag and PHS documents is starlight black with special edition emblems and striping package over deluxe cloth camel interior as pictured below.  The low mileage is confirmed not only by the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title, which is pictured below.  Please peruse all of the 190 photos below to get a true sense of how clean and nice this Trans Am this Trans Am really is.

The biggest news for 1980 was the introduction of the Turbocharged 4.9 Liter engine optional in Trans Am and Formula.  The Turbo 4.9 was rated at 210 hp, only 10 hp less than the 1979's 400 with 99 less cubic inches.  The Turbo is easily identified by it's off center hood scoop with TURBO 4.9 decals affixed to either side.  On the rear spoiler the decals proudly called out TURBO TRANS AM.

First off, on automatic cars you got the obligatory stiffer rear springs (25-lb/in higher deflection rating) that in Detroit-speak means "tuned." The rear stabilizer bar grew to .75" versus the .62" of the non-WS6 car and all stabilizer bars received polyurethane link bushings versus the softer rubber bushing of all other Firebirds. The shocks were valved a little tighter for greater wheel control, and a new steering gearbox with a ratio of 14:1 replaced the 16:1 variable ratio unit of lesser TA's. Finally where the rubber meets the road (literally) a P225/70R15 steel belted radial of Goodyear or Uniroyal origin was mounted on a set of 15 x 8 inch wide snowflake wheels. The wheels are easily recognized by the deep dish look versus the flush appearance of the standard T/A snowflakes.

As a side note, this Pontiac is not a dealer auction vehicle.  Our classics come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Trans Am, just give us a call.

condition

Exterior

The burgundy exterior is in excellent newly professionally painted condition and really pops with the added metal flake.  As one can see in the photos, the paint has a dazzling gloss, good shine, and nice finish.  The chrome trim and new decals show very well on the car.  Often many Trans Am's will have particularly chipped up front ends, this car does not, both bumpers are in excellent shape with no spider webbing or flaking paint.  There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos.  There may be some small blemishes that were too faint to show up in photos, but nothing that is really noticeable from about five or ten feet away.  Tires are in good shape sized 225/70/15 and the original wheels are nice condition with no curb rash.  It is not so apparent in the photos with the car indoors under fluorescent lights, but the car clear has heavy gold metallic flake and absolutely sparkles outdoors in the sunlight.  The t-tops have newer weather-stripping.  The trunk is solid and complete and nicely detailed with spare tire, jack, jack base, and inflator canister.

The Pontiac looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Interior

The camel tan deluxe interior of the Trans Am looks splendid.  The newly refinished seats are in like new condition with no tears, split seams, or signs of wear.  The carpet is also like new no major stains, rips, or holes.  The original dash is professionally covered with a new dash pad which is in nice condition with no cracks. All of the interior lights and gauges work as they should with the exception of the clock, and teach gauge.  We are not sure of the accuracy of fuel gauge.  The door panels look awesome with no cracks or splits, and both door pulls are solid and in tact.  Headliner and package tray have also newly been replaced and are in great condition.  Most all of the weather-stripping on the car is new or recently replaced.  This car has not been smoked in and there is no aroma of cigarettes what so ever.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Trans Am is in good mechanical condition.  It is an very nice driver that feels great on the road and at highway speeds.  There is no smoke when starting or driving the car.  It starts right away every time, idles well, and runs well.  The car shifts nicely and the dual gate shifter works as it should.  We have driven the car about 25 miles and in that time it always ran cool and showed no signs of overheating.  The brakes are responsive and do not pull as brake work was recently completed on the car.  Also, the engine is clean and nicely detailed as one can see from the photos.  The car would probably benefit from a tune up, but there are no issue we are aware of that immediately affect drivability.  The horn works as do all the interior and exterior lights, wipers, and blower for the heater work as they should.  This Trans Am has plenty of power and handles amazingly since it is a factory Turbo/WS6 car. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the dual gate shifter and t-tops out on a beautiful day.

Overall
Condition

Overall, this 1980 Special Edition Trans Am is in excellent condition.  It is a great value and we have it priced to sell.  This car turns heads and gets tons of attention wherever it goes.  The value of these cars has gone up exponentially in recent years.  They are all solid investments for a collector or the average enthusiast.  Cars like this are the Barrett Jackson stars of the future.  According to the previous owner this car was stolen when it was almost brand new.  It was a then a theft recovery after it was found right away with no damage except for a bullet hole in the rocker panel.  This story was told to us by the previous owner who did the restoration.  As a neat little side note, he also provided us with a slug, which is pictured below, that he said he recovered from the rocker during the restoration. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
