price in years to come as the Trans Am market continues to be on the

and desirable color combinations of Dark Charcoal Metallic over
Black deluxe Pimloco cloth interior. This is the factory color
scheme as verified on the trim tag pictured below, the original
build sheet, and original window sticker. The low original mileage
is verified not only by the condition of the car, but also the clear
Ohio title, pictured below, stating the mileage as "Actual." Please
peruse all of the photos, numbers, video, and other information below to get a true sense of
clean and nice this Trans Am really is.
We have personally driven this Trans Am over 1,000 miles in
the past few months. During that time the car ran
great, was completely reliable, and a true pleasure to
Please note that this Trans Am is "numbers
matching." That means that all of codes, dates, and stamping
are original or correct for the car and in correct
chronological order. In terms of value this is a very
important factor and will become more vital in the years to
come as the car gets older. Most importantly the engine is original
to the car. The last six digits of the VIN, 118394, are
stamped on the engine block and pictured below indicating
that this is the original engine that was installed in the
car brand new at the factory. The full stamping is
"2BN118394" and "2" indicates the Pontiac division of GM,
the "B" is the model year, 1981, and the "N" is the plant
where the car was produced, Norwood.
The 4-speed transmission is also numbers matching with the last 6
digits of the VIN stamped on the main case and pictured
below. This Trans Am rolled off the assemble line during the
second week of April 1981 (04B). All of the trim and
paint codes are also correct for the car.
As a side note, this Trans Am is not a dealer auction vehicle.
We hand pick each car after careful inspection. Our
classics come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone
that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.
We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the
car inspected. Please take the time to scrutinize each
picture. We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so
you can feel confident about your purchase. If you have a
question about the Pontiac, just give us a call.
Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the
correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but
all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This
means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the
correct order. For example, all of the dates for the
individual engine components and the engine casting date should
obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the
parts had to be produced before they could be assembled.
All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated
The first digit, "1," indicates that the US is the country
of origin. The "G" is the manufacturer, GM. The third digit,
"2," is the make, Pontiac. The fourth digit, "A," is the
restraint system, manual belts. The fifth digit, "W," is the
series, Trans Am. The "87," is the body style, 2-door sport
coupe. The eighth digit "H" is the engine, 5.0
Liter. The ninth
digit is a check that car vary from car to car. The tenth
digit, "B" is the model year, 1981. The "N" is the plant
where the car was produced, Norwood, OH. The six digits
are a production sequence number so this is the 118,394th
for 1981 in Norwood.
Body Build Date
The "04" is the fourth
month of the year and the "B" is the second week of the
month meaning this Trans Am's body build date is the second
week of April, 1981.
"T" means the engine was build in the Towanda, NY plant.
The "03" is the third month of year and the
"06" is the
sixth day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on
March 6, 1981. This is correct as it precedes the build
date of the car.
This means the motor was intended for a 305ci with 4 barrel
Rochester carburetor, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping
The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 118394, are stamped on
the engine pad meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number
The engine block has the correct 10410202 casting number for
a 1981 Trans Am.
Engine Block Casting Date
K 29 80
November, "29" is the twenty-ninth day of the month, and "80" is
the calendar year so the engine block was cast on
November 29, 1980.
Transmission Casting Number
13 04 065 908
The transmission has a 13 04 065 908 casting number.
Transmission Casting Date
The main case of the transmission was cast on June
Transmission Date Code
The "W" is the Warner Gear Division. The "D" is the
fourth month of the year, The "3" is the third day of the
month, the "1" is the last digit of the calendar year, and
the "2" means it was made during the second shift. So this
transmission was assembled during the second shift on April

correct 14014432 casting number.
The "L" denotes March and the "X" is 1981 so this

T-Top was made in April of 1979.
The "L" denotes March and the "X" is 1981 so this passenger

The "L" denotes March and the "X" is 1981 so this rear
window was made in March of 1981.
Charcoal exterior is in excellent driver condition. As one can
see in the photos the paint has a beautiful gloss, terrific
shine, and smooth finish. The decals are in virtually perfect
condition and the hood bird is not faded or discolored at all.
The nose crest emblem is brand new and so are the front grills.
There are no major imperfections
that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. There may
be some small blemishes that were too faint to show up in
photos, but nothing that is really noticeable from about five or
ten feet away. There area a few small bubbles, which are visible
in the photos. The tires have around 80% tread left and the
rally II wheels are OEM originals that are refinished and look
amazing with no curb rash, with 4 new center caps and trim
rings, and new lug nuts. The trunk is very solid and clean; it
comes with the spare tire, lug wrench, jack base and a correct
trunk mat, with original GM/Fischer T top bags. We have
specifically included photos below of the areas of the body most
prone to rust as well as many photos of the underside.
The Trans Am looks just as good in person as it does in
Window Date Codes
Please note that almost
the the glass on this car, even the T-Tops, is date coded and original as each piece
predates the car's body build date of this second week of
April, 1981 (04B). Original glass is a good indication
that this car has had no major accident history
and never sustained significant damage.
The Black deluxe cloth interior of
this Trans Am looks splendid. The seats are
in excellent condition with no excessive wear, rips, stains,
or seam splits. The carpet is in
excellent condition with no excessive wear, stains, or
holes. The original dash is in near perfect condition with
no cracks, fading, or sun damage. The engine turned dash
bezel looks just as nice and virtually new. A brand new
Kenwood Pioneer indash CD player with USB and MP3 hook ups
was professionally installed in this Trans Am and sounds and
works excellent with newer 6x9 speakers. All gauges work as they should and believe it or not
the clock works and amazingly keeps accurate time. Both door
panels look great with no cracks or splits, and both door
pulls are solid and in tact. The headliner and package tray
are both in excellent condition and are factory correct with
no warping, sagging, or fading. This car has not been smoked
in; there is no aroma what so ever. Please note in the video
below how both seat belts operate and retract properly. This
is a very common problem on this era "F-Body" and a small,
but very important, detail most buyers do not think to
check. Firebird interiors are
not know to wear well and the excellent condition of this
mostly original interior is a testament to the meticulous
care this car has received throughout its life.
The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the
This Trans Am is
in terrific mechanical condition with only 96,675 original
miles. As stated above we have put a lot of miles on this car
and it has proven to be a good and reliable driver. The mechanics and the way this car runs and drives are
some of its strongest points. The car has surprising power and
quickness. This Trans Am is an exceptional driver that feels
great on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one
can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about
70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking, and going through some curves. Please note that
it shifts well, runs great, there are no strange noises or vibrations, and
the car performs quite nice overall. It starts right away every
time, idles well, and runs excellent. The car shifts nicely and
does not pop out of gear. There is no smoke when starting or
driving the car. It starts right away every time, idles well,
and runs excellent. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to
one side or the other and have been recently serviced.
Flowmaster 40 mufflers were recently added with no catalytic
converter and new 2.5" pipes, which gives this TA a nice rumble
as one can hear in the video and adds to the cars peppiness. A
new HEI distributor was added with new spark plug wires and a
remanufactured 4 barrel Quadrajet Carb. was also added. This allows
both the carb. and distributor to be adjusted manually adding
greatly to way this TA runs and drives and its reliability.
Also, the engine is clean and highly detailed as one can see
from the photos. The horn works as do all the
exterior lights, wipers, and blower for the heater on all speeds. The speedometer, tachometer, odometer, oil pressure,
fuel, and battery gauges all work as they should. This is a
factory non AC car which also adds to the rarity of the car and
also leaves the engine compartment and firewall looking more
clean and tidy. This Trans Am has good power and handles
very well. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure
it is to drive this car, especially on a beautiful day rowing
through the gears with the T tops removed.
Overall, this 1981 Trans Am is in
excellent driver condition. It is a great value and we
have it priced to sell. This car turns heads and gets
tons of attention wherever it goes. The originality, the
great extent to which the numbers match, and rare option package make this Trans Am
especially desirable and difficult to duplicate. The
value of these cars has gone up exponentially in recent
years. They are all solid investments for a collector or
the average enthusiast. Cars like this are the Barrett
Jackson stars of the future. One could easily enjoy this
vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the
purchase price with minimal effort.
Thank you for looking and please do not
hesitate to email or call with any questions.
