Original LT1, #'s Match, GREAT CONDITION, Documented w/ Tank Sticker, Red/Black

….

Please call Matt directly at 513-708-1468 with any questions about this car.

Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this beautiful 1971 Corvette Stingray Coupe with the original numbers matching LT1 3high performance engine. The car is verified as an authentic LT1 by the original tank sticker pictured in this ad showing the LT1 engine option. This Corvette looks absolutely amazing in Mille Miglia Red. The Red over Black Vinyl color combination is iconic, highly desirable, and truly striking on this Corvette shark body style. This is also the correct and original color scheme verified by the codes on the trim tag pictured in this ad as well as the tank sticker.

The tank sticker is in good condition and is legible as one can see in the photos. When the car was going down the assembly line at the factory in St. Louis in 1970 a worker would write three digits on the tank sticker that corresponds to the individual car's VIN. He would write down the last three numbers of the VIN minus 500. This car was made very early in the 1971 model year production run, it was the 836th Corvette made for 1971 so the last three digits of the VIN are 836. The tank sticker has 336 written on it, which would be 836 minus 500. The tank sticker is extremely valuable and important as there is no way to verify any high performance Chevrolets prior to 1972 are original and correct without original documentation.

This LT1 Corvette is "Numbers Matching" with the last six digits of the VIN stamped on the engine pad, which is pictured in this ad, meaning the engine is original to the car. The transmission is also original with the last six digits of the VIN stamped on the main case and pictured.

We have this car priced to sell and are offering an excellent opportunity to own a very desirable LT1 Corvette at an unbeatable value. This Stingray is one the lowest priced numbers matching LT1 Corvettes on the market right now. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come as the market on C3 "chrome bumper" Corvettes from 1968 to 1972 is absolutely red hot right now and on the rise. This is especially true for rare and high performance examples like this car. The odometer shows that the car has 40,746 miles and the previous owner said that he believes the mileage to be original. The mileage is verified not only by the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title pictured in this ad showing the mileage as “Actual” Please peruse all of the photos, video, list of numbers, options, and other information below to get a true sense of how nice this Corvette really is.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle. We hand pick each car after careful inspection. Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did. We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected. Please take the time to scrutinize each picture. We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase. If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

Exterior

The Mille Miglia Red exterior is in nice driver condition. As one can see in the photos, the finish has dazzling gloss, smooth finish, and deep shine. The rally wheels and center caps are in great condition with a nice finish and no major curb rash. Please note that this LT1 Stingray has the correct and original 4-clip style beauty rings, not the cheaper foreign made replacements. The Cooper Cobra tires are almost brand new with less than 50 miles on them. There are a few tiny blemishes and touch ups around car that were too small to show up in pictures, but nothing else that is really noticeable from about five feet away. The previous owner purchased this LT1 out of Texas so it appears that it never was used in winter or experienced salty roads. As one can see in the many photos of the underside and in the video this car is very clean underneath. We have included specific photos of the areas most prone to rust to show how nice this car looks. The frame is totally solid around the “key hole” area of the frame in front of the rear tire, which is one of the most common spots for rust on a C3 Corvette.

Window Date Codes

Please note that almost all of the glass on this Corvette, both "Astro Ventilation" door windows, and even the pop-out rear window, are all date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of August 25, 1970 (A25). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

Interior

The Black Vinyl interior of the Corvette is in great condition. The seats look great overall with no excessive wear or split seams. The seats are not overly worn in the typical area where the driver gets in and out. There is one small spot on the lower left corner of the seatback. The car has the typical original dry foam. The carpet is in also in wonderful condition with no stains or rips. This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected. The gauge faces are clean and crisp and the lenses are clear. The door panels are in good shape overall. The original radio sounds great and most importantly the dash has never been cut or modified for an aftermarket installation. The dash is in great condition with no cracks, fading, or sun damage. This Corvette has never been smoked in; there are no burns marks and no aroma of cigarettes.

Corvette interiors from this era are not known to wear well and the excellent condition of this interior is a huge testament to the care and attention this car has received throughout its life and another great verification of the low mileage.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in good mechanical condition. The car drives well and feels nice on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that there are no vibrations and the car performs quite well overall. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. The shifter is tight and does not pop out of gear. The clutch feels nice. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean and detailed as one can see in the photos.

The radio works as do all the exterior lights, dash lights, wipers, and indicators. The blower for the heater works on all speeds. The entire vacuum system for the headlights and wiper door works correctly. Please note that the vacuum system work properly from both the respective switches on the dash and the override switches. The entire operation from both switches can be viewed in the video. There are a few items on the car that are not working including the clock, horn, gas gauge, and temp gauge. After the test drive and when the car was warm and up to temperature we tested the engine with a Snap On infrared thermometer to verify that the engine was running at the proper temperature. The odometer works and the speedo runs, but is bouncy sometimes and reads high. We have driven this car about 10 miles and in that time it ran and drove well, but we think the car probably sat for a while prior to our ownership so sure there may be some bugs and room for improvement if the car went into regular service. It is cold blooded like many older carbureted cars and would probably benefit from a good tune-up. It is difficult to cover every single detail so we would encourage any perspective buyer to view the car in person if possible to get a true sense of the overall condition. Some of the fiber optics work. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the power from the LT1 engine, the 4-speed manual transmission, and the T-Tops out on a beautiful day.

A note on the fiber optic light monitoring system, we consistently receive many questions about the purpose of this system; exactly what it is and what it does. The sole and main idea behind the fiber optic light monitoring system is to simply confirm that all of the exterior lights, headlights, indicators, tail lights, etc., are working and to make the driver aware of a burned out bulb. Each lamp on the outside of the car has an actual fiber optic cable the runs to an indicator on the center console. There are nine small indicators on the console and each has its own finer optic cable. When the bulb goes on the light travels through the fiber optic cable and illuminates the corresponding indicator on the console. If someone does not remember to plug the cable end into the lamp housing, does any work to the center console, or if there is a break in a connection or anywhere along the cable, that indicator no longer works. As one can image, over time this is very common.

Overall Condition

Overall, this original 1971 LT1 Corvette Stingray looks fantastic and is great driver. The beautiful original color combination, the documentation, the rarity, and the matching numbers match make this Stingray especially important and very hard to duplicate. This is the cheapest driver number matching LT1 Corvette on the market right now. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing, especially for high performance examples, and as one can see, this car is quite correct. There are photos of the VIN stamp on the engine block, suffix code, engine assembly date, transmission date, and transmission VIN stamp. In my opinion and based on our experience the "Chrome Bumper" cars from 1968-1972 are the most collectible and hottest in the entire Corvette market right now, this is especially true for rare examples like the LT1. The value of these cars has gone up exponentially in recent years. They are all solid investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
