Seven Hills Motorcars is proud to offer this numbers matching 1972 Datsun 240Z in excellent condition with only 54,875 original miles. This Z looks excellent, runs great, and is an amazing driver. The car is totally solid with excellent lines and no rust issues. This car has a completely documented history and comes with a wealth of records and documents dating back to 1972.

This Datsun is “numbers matching,” which means the engine in the car now is the correct and original engine that was installed into the car new at the factory. The last six digits of the engine code, 060127, are stamped on the engine pad and the ID plate, which are both pictured in this ad, showing the engine is original to the car.

The specific Z is almost a 1 owner car and has been with the same owner since 1973. The original owner was a pilot in the Air Force. He purchased this car brand new in California while he was still stationed in Guam; one of the original booklets with the car shows the originals owner's address in Guam. The previous owner, who was also a pilot in the Air force, purchased the car in June of 1973 from the first owner. The original Bill of Sale from 1973 is still with the car. Since then the previous owner held onto the 240 and always babied it until we purchased it this year, making sure the car was always in tip top shape. If anyone has been around cars for a long time they will know that pilots are some of the best owners and best people to purchase a car from as they are usually particular with maintenance, which was definitely the case with this 240. He was also a 240Z enthusiast and a member of the Ohio Z Club. He kept unbelievable records of everything he did to the car in extreme detail. There are dozens and dozens of log entries, documents, and receipts dating back to 1973. He kept a dated dairy of his work to the car along with very detailed check lists. His meticulous care for the car speaks for itself, considering S30 chassis don't fare well if not properly taken care of. Everything from the two sets of original Keys, tool bag, and the jack are still there. The original owners manual is still with the car along with the Datsun dealer list, 1972 Datsun clean air system manual, consumer information booklet, and warranty booklet.

This stock unmodified Z is ready to be used and enjoyed. We have this car priced to sell and are offering an excellent opportunity to own a clean, rare Datsun at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come as the market on S30 Datsuns is very hot right now and on the rise. The low original mileage is verified not only by the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title, pictured in this ad, as well as all of the copious records from the pervious owner. Please peruse all of the photos, video, and other information to get a true sense of how clean and nice this Z really is.

As a side note, this 240 is not a dealer auction vehicle. We hand pick each car after careful inspection. Our Zs come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did. We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected. Please take the time to scrutinize each picture. We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase. If you have a question about the Z, just give us a call.

Exterior

The silver exterior is in excellent condition. As one can see in the photos the paint has a terrific gloss, deep shine, and smooth finish. Both doors open and shut nicely. The original wheels with the original hubcaps have a brilliant finish and no curb rash. The tires are brand new with less than 20 miles on them and are the correctly sized 195/70R14. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the many photos. There is one tiny rock chip that has been touched up, one small spot on the washer flap, and there may be some very faint imperfections around the car that were too small to show up in the photos, but nothing else that is really noticeable from about five feet away. As one can see in the many photos of the underside of the car, it is very clean underneath. The frame is totally solid with no rust issues. We have included specific photos of the areas most prone to rust to show how nice this car looks.

Interior

The Red interior in this Datsun is in outstanding condition. The seats look excellent with no holes, no split seams, and no excessive wear. The seat is not overly worn in typical are on the bolster where the driver gets in and out. The gauge faces are clean and crisp and the lenses are clear. The carpet is in good condition throughout. The dash and console look awesome with no cracks or sun fading. This dash appears to be the original dash, not a replacement. The door panels are in great shape. The door pulls are solid and intact. The original radio works well and gets good reception. Most importantly the dash has never been cut or modified for an aftermarket installation. The jack, wheel chocks, and toolbag are still with the car, stored correctly behind the driver and passenger seat. The luggage straps are still present and in great condition also. This 240 has never been smoked in; there are no burn marks and no aroma of cigarettes.

Datsun Z interiors from this era are not known to wear well and the excellent condition of this original interior is a huge testament to the meticulous care and attention this car has received throughout its life and another great verification of the very low original mileage.

Mechanical

This Z seems to be in great mechanical condition. The car starts right away every time, runs well, and idles smoothly. It drives amazingly on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that there are no vibrations and the car performs amazing overall. The transmission shifts great. The shifter is tight, the transmission does not pop out of gear, and the clutch feels good. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. The car runs cool and does not overheat. This Datsun has plenty of power and is very enjoyable to drive. The exhaust note is amazing, almost addicting. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean, detailed, correct, and original as one can see in the photos. The AM/FM radio works as do all the exterior lights, interior lights, indicators, horn, and wipers. Even very detailed items like the rear defrost, choke light, and key buzzer all still work. All of the gauges work with the exception of the clock and the oil gauge can be lethargic. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1972 240Z is in excellent survivor condition. The low mileage, the excellent ownership history, the beautiful color combination, and the excellent overall condition make this Datsun particularly desirable and very hard to duplicate. Original examples like this one are very hard to come by nowadays. This Z always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is apparent that the vehicle has been very well taken care of by its previous owners. The prices of S30 Datsuns have increased considerably over the past several years. They are secure and wise investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.
