LT1, Convertible, Only 37,740 Original Miles, EXCELLENT CONDITION, Both Tops

….

Please call Matt directly at 513-708-1468 with any questions about this car.

Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this beautiful 1972 LT1 Corvette Stingray Convertible in fantastic condition with both the soft-top and auxiliary hardtop and only 37,740 original miles. This Corvette looks stunning, runs great, and is an excellent driver. The car is totally solid with excellent lines and no rust issues. It is finished in the rare and beautiful color combination of Steel Cities Grey (988) over Black Leather (404). This stunning color combination is one of the most highly desirable, truly striking, and looks great on this Corvette shark body style. This is also the correct and original color scheme as verified by the codes on the trim tag.

We have this LT1 Stingray convertible absolutely priced to sell. It is one the least expensive if not the cheapest LT1 convertibles on the market at the moment. Beside the LT1 engine this Corvette is loaded with highly prized options such as the M21 close-ratio 4-speed manual transmission, factory “custom” interior trim with leather seats and woodgrain accents, power brake, power steering, tilt/telescopic steering column, and the auxiliary hardtop.

This car is verified as an authentic and original LT1. The car is confirmed as LT1 by the fifth digit of the VIN. In 1972 only the LT1 Corvettes with have an “L” in this spot like this car does, a base motor Corvettes will always have an “K” in the fifth digit of the VIN. The transmission is original and numbers matching. The last six digits of the VIN, 513731, are stamped on the main case of the transmission and the transmission is original. While the engine pad is blank, the engine block has a 3970010 casting number, which is the correct casting number correct for a 1972 LT1 Corvette. Additionally, the engine has an L 8 1 casting date, which is December 8, 1971. That is only two months prior to the car's build date, which would put that right in the correct range for an engine casting date. It appears as if there are some machining marks on the engine pad, which would indicate that the block has been decked and the numbers were ground off. With the correct casting date and the fact that the engine pad is black and appears to have been machined, it is totally plausible that this is the correct and original engine that was installed in the car new in 1972. The also has many other correct components such as the Winters aluminum intake manifold and exhaust manifolds; even detailed items such as the alternator and most of the glass.

We have this car priced to sell and are offering an excellent opportunity to own a very desirable LT1 Corvette Stingray convertible at an unbeatable value. The LT1 engine and convertible body style draw a huge premium over the standard small block and coupe body styles, especially with the low miles and having both tops. The LT1 is even more rare, collectable, and more valuable than a big block Corvette. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come as the market on C3 "chrome bumper" Corvettes from 1968 to 1972 is absolutely red hot right now and on the rise. The very low original mileage is verified not only by the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title, pictured in this ad, that shows the mileage as “Actual.” Please peruse all of the photos, video, list of numbers, and other information below to get a true sense of how nice this LT1 Corvette really is.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle. We hand pick each car after careful inspection. Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did. We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected. Please take the time to scrutinize each picture. We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase. If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

Exterior

The Steel Cities Grey (988) exterior is in excellent driver condition. As one can see in the photos, the finish has dazzling gloss and deep shine. The original factory bonding strips still appear to be present on all four fenders, which is an excellent sign of no accident history. The rally wheels and center caps are in fantastic condition with a brilliant finish and no curb rash. Please note that this car still has the original 4-clip style beauty rings, not the cheaper foreign made replacements. The BF Goodrich raised white letter tires have about 90% tread left. The chrome looks great as one can see in the photos. The soft top is in good condition with no rips, holes, or frayed edges. The rear window is not foggy or yellowed. There are no major blemishes that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. There are a few tiny imperfections and small bumps in the paint around car that were too faint to show up in pictures, but nothing else that is really noticeable from about five feet away. As one can see in the many photos of the underside this LT1 is very clean underneath and has absolutely no rust issues. The frame is totally solid around the "key hole" area in front of the rear tire and we have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield or “birdcage” area, which is the most common spots for rust on a C3 Corvette. We have included specific photos of the areas most prone to rust to show how nice this car looks.

Window Date Codes

Please note that almost all the glass on this Corvette, both "Astro Ventilation" door windows and even the hardtop window, are all date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of February 11, 1972 (G11). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

Interior

The Black (404) interior of the Corvette is in outstanding condition. The gauge faces are clean and crisp and the lenses are clear. The seats are in excellent shape with no holes, split seams, or excessive wear. There is just a very small amount of wear in the typical area on the bolster where the driver gets in and out. The carpet is also in great condition with no stains, rips, or holes. This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected. The original radio is still in the car and most importantly the dash has never been cut or modified for an aftermarket installation. The door panels are in nice shape overall. The dash and console are in excellent shape with no cracks, fading, or sun damage. The jack and jack handle are still with the car, stored correctly in the storage compartment behind the passenger seat. The spare is still with the car. Please note that both seat belts work and retract properly. This is a common problem on C3 Corvettes and an issue many buyers do not think to check. This Corvette has never been smoked in; there are no burns marks and no aroma of cigarettes.

Corvette interiors from this era are not known to wear well, especially for a convertible, and the excellent condition of this interior is a huge testament to the meticulous care and attention this car has received throughout its life and another great verification of the very low original mileage.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in good mechanical condition. We have driven this LT1 about 25 miles since we purchased it. The engine runs well and idles smooth. The car drives great and feels nice on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that there are no vibrations and the car performs quite well overall. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. The car runs cool and does not overheat. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean, detailed, and correct as one can see in the photos.

The horn works as do all the exterior lights, interior lights, indicators, dash lights, and wipers. The blower for the heater works on all speeds. Both fresh air vents for the passenger compartment work, which is a very common problem on C3 Corvettes without a/c. The “Door Ajar” light works and even the “Head Lamps” light on the dash works. The “Head Lamps” light goes on properly when the headlights are first turned on and goes off as it should when the headlight rise up. The entire vacuum system for the headlights and wiper door works correctly. Please note that the vacuum system works properly from both the respective switches on the dash and the override switches. The entire operation from both switches can be viewed in the video. All of the gauges work with the obvious exception of the clock. The transmission works well in first and fourth gear, but will pop out of second and third. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the power from the LT1 engine and the top down on a beautiful day.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1972 LT1 Corvette Stingray Convertible with the M21 close-ratio 4-speed looks fantastic and is in excellent driver condition. The high-performance engine, the beautiful color combination, the great options, and having both tops make this Stingray especially important and very hard to duplicate. There are photos of the transmission VIN stamp and transmission date code. In my opinion and based on our experience the "Chrome Bumper" cars from 1968-1972 are the most collectible and hottest in the entire Corvette market right now. The LT1 and convertible Stingray models always draw a great premium over their standard counterparts. The value of these cars has gone up exponentially in recent years. They are all solid investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Other sellers are not taking the time to show the car is in such great detail to give you all of the numbers, options, photos, and video. As stated above, numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing, especially for a rare and exceptional example like this LT1, and will become even more important as time passes and this car becomes older and even more rare. This information is very valuable and important for pricing. Any perspective buyer, for any of our vehicles or from other sellers, should ask for all the numbers and information before he or she makes a purchase.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
