#'s Match, M21 Close Ratio 4-Spd, VERY ORIGINAL, Orange/Black, PRICED TO SELL!!

….

Please call Matt directly at 513-708-1468 with any questions about this car.

Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this completely numbers matching 1972 Corvette LT1 Stingray Coupe with 71,875 miles. This LT1 is extremely original and correct. There are very few LT1 Corvettes left that are as untouched as this example. It is finished in the beautiful and highly desirable color combination of Ontario Orange (987) over Black Vinyl (400). This is also the correct and original color scheme as verified by the codes on the trim tag pictured in this ad. We have this LT1 Stingray absolutely priced to sell. It is one the least expensive if not the cheapest running and driving LT1's on the market at the moment. Beside the LT1 engine this Corvette has the original and highly prized M21 close-ratio 4-speed manual transmission, verified by the code “B” stamped on the main case indicating the gear ratio.

Besides the correct paint and trim codes, this Corvette is completely "Numbers Matching" meaning the engine and transmission in the car are the correct and original units that were installed in the car new at the factory in 1972. Virtually every part we checked on the car is correct with the proper part numbers and appropriate date codes. We have run the numbers on literally hundreds of Corvettes over the years and there are very few that are so correct and original. Even very detailed parts like the distributor, carburetor, alternator, intake, exhaust manifolds, and even all of the windows are all date coded and original. The last six digits of the VIN, 526201, are stamped on the engine pad and pictured in this ad and the engine is original to the car. The transmission is also original with the last six digits of the VIN stamped on the main case and pictured.

This car is verified as an original and authentic LT1 in a number of ways. First, on the engine pad is stamped “CKY.” This suffix code denotes an LT1 with a manual transmission. The car is also confirmed as an original and authentic LT1 by the fifth digit of the VIN. In 1972 only the LT1 Corvettes with have an “L” in this spot like this car does, a base motor Corvette will always have an “K” in the fifth digit of the VIN.

We have this car priced to sell, the car obviously could use some work, but we are offering an excellent opportunity to own a very desirable LT1 Corvette at an unbeatable value. This Stingray is the lowest priced numbers matching LT1 Corvettes on the market right now. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come as the market on C3 "chrome bumper" Corvettes from 1968 to 1972 is absolutely red hot right now and on the rise. This is especially true for rare and high-performance examples like this LT1. The low original mileage is also verified by the clear Ohio title, pictured in this ad, showing the mileage as “Actual” Please peruse all of the photos, video, list of numbers, options, and other information in this ad to get a true sense of how nice this Corvette really is.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle. We hand pick each car after careful inspection. Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did. We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected. Please take the time to scrutinize each picture. We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase. If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

Exterior

The Ontario Orange (987) exterior looks in person as it does in the photos. To put it frankly, the paint is worn and weathered. Someone may want to repaint the car, but cosmetically the car has very interesting, unique, and rare patina. The original factory bonding strips still appear to be present and visible on all four fenders, which is an excellent sign of no accident history. The PO2 deluxe wheel covers are in nice condition with a brilliant finish and no major curb rash. The raised white letter tires have plenty of tread left and are correctly sized 225/70R15. As one can see in the many photos of the underside of the car it does have rust issues in the around the “key hole” area of the frame in front of the rear tire. There are also serious rust issues with the birdcage. In the interest of full disclosure, we have included many photos of the underside of car to show how it looks.

Window Date Codes

Please note that all of the glass on this Corvette, both "Astro Ventilation" door windows, the windshield, which is cracked, and even the pop-out rear window are all date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of July 13, 1972 (L13). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

Interior

The Black Vinyl (400) interior of the Corvette is completely original and showing its age.
The gauge faces are clean and crisp and the lenses are clear. The dash is in great condition with no cracks, fading, or sun damage. The seats are in decent condition with some wear in the typical area on the bolster where the driver gets in and out and the typical dry foam found with original seats on early C3's. The carpet has some holes and tears. The door panels are in good shape overall with a few small cracks. The original stereo radio does not work, but most importantly the dash has never been cut or modified for an aftermarket installation. The seat belt retractors are stuck. The car does not have a jack or spare. This Corvette has never been smoked in; there are no burns marks and no aroma of cigarettes.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in good mechanical condition overall. The car drives well and feels nice on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that there are no vibrations and the car performs quite well overall. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other, the brakes were serviced and gone through by the previous owner. The shifter is tight and does not pop out of gear. The clutch feels nice. The car runs cool and does not overheat. Also, the engine compartment is very correct with the original air cleaner, upper ignition shielding, and finned aluminum valve covers.

All of the gauges work and even the clock runs; the dash and gauge lights also work. The blower for the heater works, but only on high. The wiper door is stuck open. The previous owner said he did not want to take the mechanism off the car as it has never been removed and the factory sealing material is still present at the mounting points in the firewall. There are close up photos of this area in this ad. The headlights do not raise. The car still has all four “T-3” headlamps, but two are burned out. The wipers do not work. The car idles a bit high. The horn does not work. This Corvette is obviously a project, we have tried to disclose everything, but it is difficult to cover every single detail and there may be something we missed so we would encourage any perspective buyer to look at the car in person if possible to get a true sense of the overall condition. We have driven this car about ten miles and in that time it ran and drove well, but it may need additional service or some maintenance if the car went into regular service or was used more extensively. It is still a pleasure it is to drive this Stingray, especially with the power from the LT1 engine, the 4-speed manual transmission, and the T-Tops out on a beautiful day.

Overall Condition

Overall, this original 1972 LT1 Corvette Stingray is very original and a decent driver. This is a very interesting car and a rare opportunity to find an authentic LT1 in such untouched condition. Many who have seen this car really appreciate it for what it is and enjoy the car in its present condition. Some have called it a “rat rod” LT1 Corvette. The beautiful original color combination, the rarity, the originality, and the great extent to which the numbers match make this Stingray especially important and very hard to duplicate. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing, especially for high performance examples, and as one can see, this car is quite correct. There are photos of the VIN stamp on the engine block, suffix code, engine assembly date, transmission date, and transmission VIN stamp. In my opinion and based on our experience the "Chrome Bumper" cars from 1968-1972 are the most collectible and hottest in the entire Corvette market right now, this is especially true for rare examples like the LT1. The value of these cars has gone up exponentially in recent years. They are all solid investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Other sellers are not taking the time to show the car is in such great detail to give you all of the numbers, options, photos, and video. As stated above, numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing, especially for an exceptional example like this car, and will become even more important as time passes and this car becomes older and even more rare. This information is very valuable and important for pricing. Any perspective buyer, for any of our vehicles or from other sellers, should ask for all the numbers and information before he or she makes a purchase.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
