Seven Hills Motorcars is glad to offer this beautiful numbers matching 1972 Corvette Stingray Coupe in nice driver condition with only 73,260 original miles. This Corvette looks absolutely amazing with a beautiful bright red paintjob. The red over saddle color combination is iconic, highly desirable, truly striking, and looks great on this Corvette shark body style.

We have driven this car over 20 miles recently, during that time that car was completely reliable and had no issues.

This Stingray is "Numbers Matching" meaning the engine in the car is the correct and original unit that was installed in the car new at the factory in St. Louis in October of 1971. Even most of the glass is date coded and original. The last six digits of the VIN, 505226, are stamped on the engine pad and pictured in this ad, and the engine is original to the car.

We have this car priced to sell and are offering an excellent opportunity to own a very desirable Corvette Stingray at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come as the market on C3 "chrome bumper" Corvettes from 1968 to 1972 is absolutely red hot right now and on the rise. Please peruse all of the photos, video, list of numbers, and other information to get a true sense of how nice this Corvette really is.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle. We hand pick each car after careful inspection. Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did. We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected. Please take the time to scrutinize each picture. We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase. If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

Model Description

The 1972 Corvette was truly the end of an era. 1972 was the last year to feature chrome bumpers and the "egg crate" grill, it is considered to be the last year of truly classic Corvettes. Years after were more at the mercy of insurance companies, fuel prices, and emission concerns, 1972 is considered the last "good" year. It was also the last year to feature a pop out rear window, and the first year that the way horsepower ratings are measured changed from gross to the more accurate net. As in investment, the 1972 will always have an advantage and out perform other years because of its precedence as the end of a very great period for Corvette and muscle cars as a whole.

Exterior

The red exterior is in excellent driver condition. As one can see in the photos, the finish has dazzling gloss, deep shine, and smooth finish. Both doors open and shut nicely. The wheels and center caps are in good condition with a brilliant finish and no major curb rash on the beauty rings. The raised white letter tires are literally brand new with less than five miles on them and are correctly sized 225/70R15. There are no major blemishes that have been excluded from the photos. There are some tiny imperfections around car that were too faint to show up in pictures, but nothing else that is really noticeable from about five feet away. As one can see in the many photos of the underside this car is clean underneath. There is some corrosion, mostly in the typical spots on the frame around the "key hole" area in front of the rear tire and the windshield frame or “birdcage” area, which is the most common spots for rust on a C3 Corvette. We have included specific photos of the areas most prone to rust to show how this car looks.

Window Date Codes

Please note that almost all of the glass on this Corvette, both “Astro Ventilation” side widows and the rear window are all date coded and original as they predate the car's body build date of the October 19, 1971 (C19). Original glass is another great verification that this car has had no accident history and never sustained damage.

Interior

The saddle interior of the Corvette is in great condition. The gauge faces are clean and crisp and the lenses are clear. The dash is in great shape with no cracks, fading, or sun damage. The seats look just as good in person as they do in the photos. There is one spot in the typical area on the bolster where the driver gets in and out that is visible in the photos. The carpet is in also in nice condition with no rips or holes. This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected. The radio works well. The door panels are in good condition overall. There is a jack with the car stored in the storage compartment behind the passenger seat. The spare is also still with the car. This Corvette has not been smoked in; there are no burns marks and no aroma of cigarettes.

Corvette interiors from this era are not known to wear well and the nice condition of this interior is a huge testament to the care and attention this car has received throughout its life.

Mechanical

This Stingray seems to be in good mechanical condition. As stated above we have put over 20 miles on the car with no issues. The original numbers matching engine starts right away every time, runs well, and idles smooth. It drives nice on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that there are no vibrations and the car performs quite well overall. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. The transmission shift well throughout the power band. There is not blue smoke when starting or driving the car. The gauge shows that the engine makes great oil pressure. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean and detailed.

The radio works as do all the exterior lights, horn, and indicators. The vacuum system for the headlights works. The headlight vacuum system works properly from both the respective switches on the dash and the override switch under the column. The entire operation from both switches can be viewed in the video. This Corvette has a very healthy exhaust note as one can hear in the video. All of the gauges work except the temp gauge and the obvious exception of the clock. There are some items that do not work such as the blower for the heater, the wiper door, and the temperature control wheel is sticky. There may be some other bugs to be worked out so we would highly encourage any perspective buyer to look at the car in person. Not enough can be said as to how much fun it is to drive this Stingray, especially with the T-Tops out on a beautiful day.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1972 Corvette is in nice driver condition. The beautiful original color combination, the condition, and the great extent to which the numbers match make this Stingray especially hard to duplicate for a chrome bumper Stingray in this price range. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing and as one can see, this car is quite correct. There are photos of the VIN stamp on the engine block, suffix code, and engine assembly date. In my opinion and based on our experience the "Chrome Bumper" cars from 1968-1972 are the most collectible and hottest in the entire Corvette market right now. The value of these cars has gone up exponentially in recent years. They are all solid investments for a collector. This car is just driver quality and nowhere near concourse standards, but it is a great value for our asking price. One could easily buy this car now, enjoy it for several years, and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Other sellers are not taking the time to show the car is in such great detail to give you all of the numbers, options, photos, and video. As stated above, numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing, especially for an exceptional example like this car, and will become even more important as time passes and this car becomes older and even more rare. This information is very valuable and important for pricing. Any perspective buyer, for any of our vehicles or from other sellers, should ask for all the numbers and information before he or she makes a purchase.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
