Seven Hills Motorcars is proud to offer this exceptionally nice and numbers matching 1979 Pontiac Trans Am in fantastic driver condition with only 50,742 original miles. This Trans Am looks fantastic, runs well, and is an excellent driver. The Red over Black interior is a beautiful color combination that looks great on the car. This is an excellent opportunity to own a highly desirable classic Trans Am that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come as the market on the third generation F-bodies (Firebird and Camaro) is strong right now and on the rise, especially for very low mileage examples like this car. Please peruse all of the photos, the extensive list of option codes, video, and information to get a true sense of how nice and original this Trans Am really is.
This Trans Am is numbers matching with the last six digits of the VIN stamped on the engine block meaning that this is the 400ci engine is the original unit that was installed in the car new in December of 1978 at the factory in Van Nuys, CA. The transmission is also original with the last six digits of the VIN stamped on the main case.
As a side note, this Pontiac Trans Am is not a dealer auction vehicle. We hand pick each car after careful inspection. Our classics come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did. We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected. Please take the time to scrutinize each picture. We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase. If you have a question about the Trans Am, just give us a call.
Exterior
The Red exterior is in great driver condition. As one can see in the photos the finish has a terrific gloss, deep shine, and smooth finish. Both doors open and shut nicely. Often many Trans Am's will have particularly chipped up front ends, this car does not. The front spoiler, which is low and vulnerable to damage, is in nice shape as one can see in the photos. The YJ8 snowflake wheels and center caps are in beautiful condition with a brilliant finish and no curb rash. The BFGoodrich white letter tires are sized 255/60R15 and have plenty of tread left. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. There are some other very tiny blemishes that were too small to show up in the pictures, but nothing that is really noticeable from about five or ten feet away. As one can see in the many photos of the underside of the car, it is pretty solid with the only exception being the driver side frame rail in front of the rear axle. We have included photos showing this along with specific photos of the rear spring mounts, rockers, lower quarter panels, and the areas most prone to rust to show how this car looks.
Interior
The Black cloth interior in this Trans Am is in fantastic condition. The seats are in great shape and look as good in person as they do in the photos with no split seams, rips, or excessive wear. The seat is not overly worn in the typical area on the bolster where the driver gets in and out. The gauge faces are crisp and clean and the lenses are clear. The carpet is also in great condition with no issues. This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected. The headliner is in great condition with no sagging, warping or tears. The original dash is in good condition with no fading or sun damage. The door panels are in excellent shape overall and the door pulls are solid and intact. The package tray is in nice shape and not faded or warped. This Trans Am has never been smoked in; there are no burn marks and no aroma of cigarettes.
Also, please note that both seat belts work and retract properly. This is a common problem on GM vehicles from this time period and a small, but important, detail many buyers do not think to check.
Trans Am interiors from this era are not known to wear well, and the excellent condition of this interior is a huge testament to the meticulous care and attention this car has received throughout its life.
Mechanical
This Trans Am seems to be in good mechanical condition. The original 400ci starts right away every time, runs well, and idles smoothly. The car drives great and feels nice on the road and at highway speeds. In the video in this ad one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that there are no vibrations or strange noises and the car performs quite well overall. The brakes do not pull to one side or the other. The transmission shifts well through the power band. There is no blue smoke when starting or driving the car. This Trans Am has plenty of power and is quite fast. It sounds great at idle with the classic “chop” that everyone loves. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean, detailed, and correct as one can see in the photos.
All the exterior lights work, along with interior lights, wipers, and radio. The blower for the heater and A/C works on medium and low speeds. The A/C compressor has been removed but everything else appears to still be in the car. The complete operation of the headlights, brights, and turn signals can be viewed in the video in this ad. All of the gauges work except the obvious exception of the clock. The car now has a true dual exhaust with no catalytic converter and a healthy exhaust note as one can hear in the video. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car.
Overall Condition
Overall, this 1978 Trans Am is in magnificent driver condition. The low miles, the beautiful color combination, and the excellent overall condition make this car especially important and hard to duplicate. It is very hard to find a Firebird or Camaro from this era that is still in great original condition with low mileage as most were used, abused, or modified. There are photos in this ad of the VIN stamp on the engine block and transmission main case. This Trans Am always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners. The prices of second generation GM “F-Body” cars have increased considerably over the past several years, especially for low mileage and original examples like this car. They are secure and wise investments for a collector. Cars like this are the Barrett Jackson stars of the future. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.
Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
As a licensed and registered dealer in The State of Ohio we are required to collect sales tax for residents of Ohio with a rate based on the buyer's county. Additionally, Ohio has a special sales tax relationship with buyers who are going to register their car in Arizona, California, Florida, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, or South Carolina so we are also required to collect sales tax. Please keep in mind the you will not be paying additional tax and you will not be taxed twice. Buyers from those states will simply pay of portion of their sales tax to Ohio and they will then be credited with that amount when they transfer the title in their home state. Buyers from all other states will not owe any sales tax to The State of Ohio. For all buyers, including residents of Ohio, all other states, and all other countries, we are required to collect necessary paperwork and have the current title transferred in the buyer's name and address. This process takes two days at the Ohio BMV and any buyer should expect to receive their title within 30 days of purchase, although it is usually closer to one week to receive the title once we receive the returned paperwork.
